Pierre Leong, Chartered Loss Adjuster, has been in this professional field for the last 31 years.
During his employment with Toplis & Harding (11 years) and McLaren Dick (6 years), Pierre Leong had been the then firms’ key player in the claims relating to Construction All Risks. Within his own company, Pierre maintains his active role in CAR claims exclusively in Greater China.
Pierre Leong underwent training as a quantity surveyor for five years before he became a loss adjuster, and took his specialist papers to meet the requirements of the Chartered Institute of Loss Adjusters included Consequential Loss Claims, Liability Claims and Adjustment of Contents.
Pierre’s first experience with power stations was the catastrophic fire in 1972 at the Ap Lei Chau Power Station of Hong Kong S.A.R. This involved extensive fire damage to the new extension of the then power station, to the effect that major repair was necessitated in lieu of demolition and rebuilding in order to meet with the original time-frame. Bills of Quantities and enforcement of new rates for the repair were established personally by Pierre. The detailed settlement sum of over HK$6 million was presented to the then Reinsurers, Munich Re and was submitted and approved without question.
In the 70’s and 80’s, Pierre Leong has been involved in CAR and machinery breakdown claims relating to the power stations or sub-stations in Hong Kong S.A.R. for both The China Light & Power Co., Ltd. and The Hong Kong Electric Co., Ltd.
Pierre Leong moved his personal interest to China in 1983, as a claims consultant for The People’s Insurance Company of China (‘PICC’), and had been involved in claims relating to earthfill settlement of the Daya Bay Nuclear Power Station before the CAR policy was finalized.
In addition to his management role, Pierre is involved in the development of loss adjusting and risk management in Greater China. His main involvement in loss adjusting are losses in connection with power plant, petrochemical plant under EAR/CAR and operation risks and business interruption claims.
